Cleaning, drying, storing
Yoga mat care
A mat lasts longer when you clean it the way its material wants. Here is what our product notes say for TPE, for NBR foam and for EVA blocks.
TPE mats: damp cloth and dry flat
Wipe the mat with a damp cloth and cold water, or with a mild detergent if it needs more. Let it dry flat before you roll it up. Keep it out of the washing machine and the dryer, and out of long hours of direct sun, as the product notes say.
Our TPE mats are made for bare feet. Shoes, and the claws of a pet that likes to lie on your mat, can tear the surface.
NBR foam: air it out first, hand wash after
A new NBR foam mat smells of foam. Unroll it and leave it flat for 2 to 3 days before the first session, as its product notes say. The smell fades as it airs.
After that, hand wash only. A damp cloth with a little mild detergent cleans the ribbed top. Rinse the cloth, wipe again with plain water, and let the mat dry flat.
Rolling and storing
Roll the mat with the top side out if the edges curl up when you lay it down, and back the usual way once it lies flat. The strap that comes with it holds the roll, and the bag keeps dust off it in a closet or the trunk of a car. Keep it away from radiators and sunny windowsills.
Blocks and balls
Our EVA blocks are closed-cell foam, so sweat stays on the surface. Spot clean them with a mild detergent and towel or air dry them.
Wipe a ball down with a damp cloth. Keep it away from sharp edges and from heaters, and keep the spare air plug and the plug remover with the pump so you can top it up.
The same care fits every mat in the Gruper lineup: check whether yours is TPE or NBR on the yoga mats shelf and follow that section above.
