Carpet, Wood or Tile: Matching a Yoga Mat to Your Floor
Carpet, wood and tile change how the same mat feels. Pick the thickness for the floor first, then for the practice.

Thicker is not better for every pose: on 15 mm of soft foam, tree pose wobbles more than on 6 mm. If you do both, start from the floor you have.

Width, drawn to scale
Both mats in the drawing are 72 inches long. The one on the right is 32 inches across instead of 24, and that is the difference between your hands landing on the mat in a wide plank or on the floor beside it.
Our 32-inch mats come in TPE at 6 or 8 mm, with alignment marks printed on top, and in 15 mm NBR foam for floor work. If you share a mat with a child or use a wide stance for strength work, measure your floor and pick wide.
Materials

Thermoplastic elastomer is a dense foam that springs back fast. Our TPE mats are textured on both sides, so the mat holds the floor and your palms hold the mat, and the two colors are foamed into one sheet.

Nitrile foam is softer and thicker than TPE. At 10 or 15 mm it puts a real layer between your knees and a tile floor, so it suits Pilates and floor work more than balance poses.

Our yoga blocks are high-density EVA, closed-cell so sweat stays on the surface. Each block is 9 by 6 by 3 inches and weighs 0.44 lb, light enough to carry two in one hand.

65 cm ball (26 in)
A desk that pairs with it: 28" to 30" high
75 cm ball (30 in)
A desk that pairs with it: 31" to 32" high
Between two sizes? Sit on the ball with your feet flat: your hips should be level with your knees or a little higher. If you are pregnant, the first step is a question for your ob-gyn. Our ball guide quotes what the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists advises.
Before you order
Lay a tape on the spot first. A standard mat needs a patch 6 feet by 2 feet. The 32-inch mats need 8 inches more across, and you want room to step off the side.
Extra-wide matsStanding poses and flows feel steadier on 6 mm. Kneeling, planks and floor work on hard tile are where 10 or 15 mm of foam earns its weight.
How to choose a matIf your elbows hang off a 24-inch mat in a plank, a 32-inch one keeps both hands on it. Length is 72 inches on every Gruper mat.

Firm foam, textured on both sides, 6 or 8 mm. Pick 24 inches for a studio bag and a small floor, or 32 inches with alignment marks if you want room for a wide stance.
A little more give than 6 mm without the softness of thick foam. Three TPE mats come in 8 mm, two of them 32 inches wide with alignment marks.
NBR foam at 10 mm or 15 mm for floor work on hard floors. The 15 mm size is also 32 inches wide, so you can roll onto your side without leaving the mat.
Thirty-two inches across instead of 24. Your hands stay on the mat in a wide plank, and you can roll onto your side without touching the floor.

8 years of mats
Our two-tone TPE mat goes back to 2018 and is still the one most of our buyers rate. Around it the Gruper range has grown to thick foam mats, mats 32 inches wide, three kinds of exercise ball and a pair of foam blocks. Every mat comes with a strap and a bag, and our ridged and anti-slip balls come with a foot pump.

For standing flows and a mix of poses, start with the two-tone TPE mat at 6 mm. If you mostly kneel, stretch or do floor work on a hard floor, the 10 or 15 mm NBR foam mat gives your knees more cushion. If your hands slip off the sides in a wide stance, pick one of the 32-inch mats.
From the chart printed with our balls: 45 cm for under 4'3", 55 cm for 4'3" to 5'0", 65 cm for 5'1" to 5'7" and 75 cm for 5'8" to 6'2". Sit on it with your feet flat: your hips should be level with your knees or a little higher. The ball size guide has the desk heights too.
At 15 mm, it can be: soft foam lets your foot sink a little, so tree pose and warrior feel less steady. Our 6 and 8 mm TPE mats are firm enough for balance, and the thick NBR mat is made for floor work.
Yes. Every Gruper yoga mat ships with a carrying strap and a storage bag. The 32-inch alignment mat comes with a mesh bag.
Wipe it with a damp cloth and cold water or a mild detergent, then let it dry flat. Keep it out of the washing machine and the dryer, and out of long hours of direct sun. Our mat care guide goes through it step by step.
That is a question for your ob-gyn, not for us. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists says that with a healthy, normal pregnancy most women can keep exercising after talking with their doctor, and it lists warning signs to stop. Our ball guide links that page.
